Bengaluru-based Mayhem Studios, renowned for developing AAA mobile games, has secured an undisclosed investment from Lumikai, a venture fund focused on media and gaming. The investment aims to accelerate the development of Mayhem Studios’ upcoming battle royale mobile game, Underworld Gang Wars (UGW), and enhance the company’s technological capabilities and team growth.
Launched in May 2022 as the mobile game development arm of gaming unicorn Mobile Premier League (MPL), Mayhem Studios is currently working on its flagship title, Underworld Gang Wars. This AAA battle royale game integrates Indian culture and aesthetics into its gameplay, featuring iconic Indian locations, distinctive characters, and culturally relevant elements to offer players a fresh and immersive experience.
The company’s CEO, Ojas Vipat, expressed excitement about the new investment. “Lumikai’s investment is a significant endorsement of what Mayhem Studios is building. Their extensive industry knowledge and expertise will be invaluable as we strive to elevate India’s gaming industry on the global stage. Underworld Gang Wars is just the beginning of our ambitious vision to create world-class games that resonate with players worldwide. We are committed to nurturing Indian gaming talent and showcasing the country’s creative prowess,” he said.
Lumikai’s founding partner, Salone Sehgal, also shared her enthusiasm about the partnership. “We think Indian games can become popular globally, and this game fits that vision perfectly,” she said. She emphasized that their investment reflects their faith in Indian gaming and the global appeal of UGW.
Last year, Mayhem Studios raised $20 million in a Series A funding round led by Peak XV Partners (formerly known as Sequoia Capital India and South East Asia), with participation from Steadview Capital, Truecaller, and others.
