Zomato Introduces Ticket Reselling Feature Ahead of Major Concert Event

Foodtech giant Zomato has unveiled a new feature, “Book Now, Sell Anytime,” set to transform event ticketing by introducing a secondary market within its app. This innovative feature, which will go live on September 30, aligns with the company’s Feeding India Concert bookings. The introduction aims to provide flexibility in ticket management and ensure fair pricing practices.

The “Book Now, Sell Anytime” feature allows users to list their purchased tickets on the Zomato app for prices that can be either higher or lower than the original purchase price. To prevent market manipulation, the listing price will be capped at twice the current phase price available on the ticketing platform. Additionally, customers will be restricted to buying a maximum of 10 tickets per category, which can then be listed for resale.

This announcement comes in conjunction with Zomato’s Feeding India 2024 Concert, which will feature performances by international pop star Dua Lipa, along with Talwiinder and Jonita Gandhi. The concert’s details were first reported by YourStory.

In a strategic move to bolster its event offerings, Zomato previously acquired Paytm’s event and ticketing platform for Rs 2,048 crore in cash. This acquisition aligns with the company’s broader vision of expanding into diverse experiences beyond its core food delivery service. As Zomato’s CEO Deepinder Goyal mentioned in a shareholder letter, “We believe, over the next decade and beyond, going-out experiences will continue to grow strongly in lockstep with overall growth in lifestyle and consumption.”

In addition to the new reselling feature, Zomato is preparing to launch its District App. This app will offer a comprehensive range of services, including movie bookings, sports ticketing, live performances, shopping, and ‘staycations’.
