Apple Supplier Jabil to Invest Rs 2,000 Crore in New Electronics Manufacturing Facility in Trichy

Global electronic component supplier Jabil is set to invest Rs 2,000 crore to establish a new manufacturing facility in Tiruchirapalli (Trichy). The project, expected to create around 5,000 jobs, was formalized through an agreement signed in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin in the United States.

Chief Minister Stalin confirmed the development via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“Key investments secured for Tamil Nadu’s industrial progress! A significant investment of Rs 2,000 crore at Tiruchirapalli by Jabil, a global leader in EMS. This will create 5000 jobs and create a new cluster for electronics manufacturing.”

Jabil, a prominent supplier to major global tech companies like Apple, Cisco, and HP, adds to the growing list of major electronics players in Tamil Nadu. With this new facility, the state will now host all major Apple suppliers, including Foxconn, Pegatron, Tata Electronics, and Jabil, further strengthening its position as a key hub for electronics manufacturing.

“This will transform Trichy and create a new electronics cluster,” the Tamil Nadu government noted in its official statement.

Rockwell Automation Expands Operations in Kanchipuram

In addition to Jabil’s announcement, Chief Minister Stalin also confirmed that Rockwell Automation will expand its manufacturing plans in Kanchipuram with an investment of Rs 666 crore. This expansion is set to create 365 new jobs in the region.

MoU with Autodesk to Boost MSMEs and Startups

As part of Tamil Nadu’s broader industrial push, the state has also signed an MoU with Autodesk to enhance youth skill development and provide support to MSMEs and startups. The initiative is expected to strengthen the state’s overall industrial ecosystem.

Nokia and Other Companies Sign Major Investment Pacts

Earlier on August 30, the Tamil Nadu government signed agreements with several other major companies, including Nokia, PayPal, Applied Materials, Yield Engineering Systems, Microchip, and Infinx. These pacts were secured during Chief Minister Stalin’s and Industries Minister TRB Rajaa’s ongoing visit to the United States.

“Nokia will set up an R&D centre, one of their largest fixed network test beds in the world, for innovations in 10G, 25G, 50G, and 100G PON, fixed wireless access, and MDU solutions, will be set up at SIPCOT, Siruseri, Chengalpattu, at Rs 450 crore, generating 100 jobs,” the state’s industries department said in a statement.

BNY Mellon Invited to Explore AI Investments

In addition to securing investments, the Chief Minister has been in talks with BNY Mellon (The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation) to explore potential AI investment opportunities in Tamil Nadu. On September 7, Stalin held discussions with BNY Mellon officials and invited the financial services firm to make new investments in the state.
