The world is shrinking, and BorderPlus wants to be at the heart of it. The cross-border workforce mobility startup has just landed $7 million (Rs 60 crore) in its first institutional funding round, with Owl Ventures leading the charge. Heavyweight investors like Flipkart co-founder Binny Bansal, ex-CaratLane CEO Mithun Sacheti, OYO’s Ritesh Agarwal, and Aakash Chaudhary of Sparkl Edventure also joined the party.
Founded by Mayank Kumar (co-founder of upGrad) and Ayush Mathur (ex-OYO executive), BorderPlus is on a mission to bridge the global workforce gap- starting with healthcare professionals and nurses. Their game plan? A full-service model covering language training, visa processing, job placements, cultural integration, and financial support to make international employment as smooth as a well-planned layover.
The company’s first pit stop is Germany, where they are already training their first batch of nurses. The plan? Expand into hospitality, retail, teaching, construction, logistics, and trucking- industries where skilled workers are in high demand. Looking further ahead, BorderPlus aims to spread its wings to the US, UK, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Why now? The global workforce is ageing, and high-income countries face a shortage of skilled workers. According to co-founder Mayank Kumar, the world is short of 3 million healthcare professionals, with countries scrambling to fill the gaps. India, alongside the Philippines, Brazil, and parts of Africa, supplies much of this talent.
But here’s the twist- BorderPlus isn’t playing the usual B2C game. Instead of charging workers hefty fees upfront, they are flipping the script and billing recruiters. With an ambitious target of Rs 100 crore in revenue by FY27, the startup is betting big on a B2B and enterprise-driven model.
With this funding, BorderPlus will enhance its platform, build stronger partnerships, scale its reach, and explore potential mergers and acquisitions (M&As).
As Amit Patel, Managing Director at Owl Ventures, says, “The global workforce landscape is shifting, and BorderPlus is solving a critical need with its tech-driven approach.” One thing’s for sure- while others are debating remote work, BorderPlus is making sure Indian talent gets a global address.
