Captain Fresh Acquires Poland-based Salmon Company Koral

Captain Fresh, a leading seafood supply chain firm, has announced its acquisition of Koral, a Poland-based producer and distributor of branded salmon products. The agreement was signed with Abris Capital Partners, an ESG transformation specialist private equity investor, and Boguslaw Kowalski, the company’s founder.

The transaction is currently subject to approval by the Polish antimonopoly office and other regulatory bodies. This acquisition follows Captain Fresh’s previous purchases of CenSea, an American importer of frozen seafood, and Senecrus, a French shrimp cooker and distributor.

With this acquisition, Captain Fresh aims to expand its global presence in the salmon market, which is estimated to reach $33.5 billion in 2024. Boguslaw Kowalski and Justyna Frankowska will lead the company’s global salmon strategy.

Koral, known for its smoked salmon products under the SuperFish brand, operates 26 production lines and processes 120 tons of fish daily, catering to both domestic and international markets.

Captain Fresh, launched in 2020, operates an online B2B platform offering a variety of seafood products including shrimps, salmon, tuna, crab, and lobsters. The platform procures, processes, and distributes seafood for retailers and is accessible via mobile applications on both Android and iOS.

Backed by prominent investors such as Tiger Global Management, Prosus Ventures, British International Investment, Matrix Partners India, Accel, SBI Holdings, Evolvence Group, Ankur Capital, and Incubate Fund, Captain Fresh has raised $165 million to date. The company is projected to close the current financial year with a revenue run rate of $650 to $700 million.
