Google India’s Country Head and Vice President, Sanjay Gupta, has been promoted to the role of President for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. Gupta announced his new role in a LinkedIn post, emphasizing the significance of the APAC region, which he described as “the heart of global growth and innovation, home to half the world’s population and poised to lead the tech revolution.”
Gupta will succeed Scott Beaumont, the current President of APAC at Google, who is set to retire at the end of the year after nearly 16 years with the company. Reflecting on Beaumont’s tenure, Gupta wrote, “Scott’s leadership and vision have already paved the way for Google’s investments in APAC. We grew our footprint around the region, invested in technical infrastructure, focused on skills development, and partnered with the technical and scientific community in the region to support APAC’s prowess. I am humbled and excited to build upon this incredible momentum.”
Gupta began his journey at Google in January 2020. Prior to joining Google, he served as Managing Director at Star India for four years and was the Chief Operating Officer of the company for seven years. His extensive career also includes roles at Bharti Airtel and Hindustan Unilever.
Beaumont expressed confidence in Gupta’s capabilities, stating, “Since our first meeting five years ago, I have seen Sanjay’s drive to think ambitiously about how technology can be a power for good in the development of his home country: India. He now has the opportunity to pursue that same calling more broadly across Asia Pacific.” Beaumont added, “I know Sanjay will do the position, his team, and the company enormous credit, and I look forward to supporting him in his early months.”
In his LinkedIn post, Gupta highlighted the region’s potential, noting, “APAC has tech-savvy users, skilled human capital, a thriving developer and startup ecosystem, and governments that see artificial intelligence (AI) as a path to economic growth. I look forward to working with our talented team across the region to harness AI’s transformative power for APAC.”
